Those currently incarcerated in TN jails and prisons are at a higher risk for severe illness and death from COVID-19, especially the elderly and immunocompromised, including survivors of domestic and sexual violence who often live with medical conditions exacerbated by and immune systems weakened by trauma.
While we fight for their release as a primary public health response to this crisis, The Love and Justice Project, a Free Hearts initiative along with the TN Prison Books Project and SONG Nashville are also raising commissary funds to help move resources to incarcerated survivors. Those incarcerated in TN have long lacked access to hygiene supplies and necessities essential to basic health and human dignity and the need for these resources has only been underscored by this global pandemic.
We will disperse funds to those incarcerated survivors we and other community organizations are in contact with.
